Carteret County is growing and along with that growth comes higher enrollment and stronger demand on our educational system. Our educational system consist of many different departments and levels. Ranging from early education facilities to our Community College. We have students that are as young as 4 years old, to 90 years young. Each of them have their own special needs and learn at different rates and in different ways.
Students can learn just about anything from how to tie their shoes, to how to repair automobiles, to how to split atoms. Students of any age can learn how to interact socially, or how to survive alone. Our schools consist of little mobile classrooms, all the way to big brick and glass buildings. Students can begin their road to education and follow it all the way to to receiving their degrees. We have a very complex educational system and it requires extreme diligence to keep it running.
With all the positives our educational system has, there is always room for improvement. We need to continue to build better facilities, improve teacher and staff compensation, expand into areas just being explored and some not yet realized. Along with improving academic avenues and quality, it is important to include other programs such as arts, and sports. All of these programs can be greatly influenced by the availability and effectiveness of social programs and financial support.
Just as Carteret County is a smaller community within the boundaries of North Carolina, our educational system is a smaller community within the boundaries of Carteret County. The quality of our educational system is directly connected to the quality of Carteret County. As your County Commissioner, I will work to improve our educational system using resources now available as, well as looking for other resources and ideas.
