Anyone that has ever had fresh North Carolina seafood will tell you, it is the best anywhere. Whether it be our shellfish, crabs, shrimp, or fish, it is hard to beat what Carteret County and the rest of North Carolina offers. Yet it is hard to find many seafood restaurants in Carteret County that do not sell imported seafood of some sort. This does not help our local economy or the commercial fishing industry.
It is vital in saving the commercial fishing industry and heritage, along with assuring the availability of fresh local seafood, that we promote the importance and pleasures of North Carolina seafood. There are a few organizations that are currently doing just that, but not enough of them, nor with satisfactory results.
As your County Commissioner, I will work to create better promotion and marketing of local and other North Carolina seafood, through organizations, grants and by working with others that are experienced in this area.
